A biblical scholar once said in an interview, "The Bible is the best work of historical fiction ever written." Of course, he was referring to the fact it was written by men and then translated and rewritten by men over the millenia since the first edition was published.
The scholar said the Bible isn't the "word of God", but the word in the name of God understood and interpreted by men, and however devout and dedicated they were and are today, it's still their words and work, not God's. And their Bible, not God's.
Something we should remember when we hear people speak, and especially preach, about the Bible as the word of God. It's not. It's the words of the men who wrote the Bible, they're simply using his name for theirs in the name of God. Nothing more, and not God's.
